European road freight is available on a next day basis in the UK and a 3 or 4 day service throughout most of Europe. As an example, Euro-pallets (skid) 1m x 1.2m stacked to 2m high, can contain 8000 pairs of spectacle lenses and costs less than £200 per journey. This gives a return cost of £0.05 per pair.

Optical Coating Technologies have succeeded in developing returnable permanent packaging that guarantees the delivery of un-damaged lenses.

The precise cost is dependent on the packaged volume more than the weight. We are able to offer a competitive injection moulding service for lenses, including mould maintenance, which will save one journey.
